Hair Loss
Prevention
Hair loss prevention is possible for certain types of hair
loss. It is important for individuals dealing with hair loss to
explore different options to prevent or slow hair loss.
First of all, hair loss caused by genetic factors
cannot be prevented completely. It can only be prevented so far
as slowing the process down. Doctors and scientists are still
studying the connection between genetics and hair loss. For
this reason, it is best to focus on slowing hair loss using
certain medications and treatments that are available on the
market.
Other types of hair loss can be prevented completely, or
nearly completely. These types are generally caused by
something external to the body. This means that when the
external factor is removed or corrected hair loss is no longer
an issue.
One preventable cause is feeling high levels of
stress. There are many different stressors in
life, and they can be both physical and emotional. If one
starts to lose their hair, removing the stressor or improving
outlook can prevent future hair loss and possibly reverse any
damage that has been done.
Pregnancy is another cause of hair loss
that is not permanent. Obviously, having a child in the womb is
a temporary thing. Once the baby has been born the hair
generally returns to normal. There is no cause for alarm in
this case, as the hair loss is not permanent.
Another cause of hair loss is overactive or underactive thyroid. These
are actually two separate conditions. Overactive thyroid
occurs when there is too much thyroid hormone present, and
underactive thyroid occurs when there is too little.
Both cases affect body balance so much that hair loss can be
the result. Both scenarios are very treatable, and further hair
loss can be prevented. Thyroid disease is often hard to detect,
so it is necessary to become familiar with other signs of it to
prevent further complications.
One of the most common causes of unexpected hair loss is
taking certain medications. These medications
can lead to thinning of hair, or even hair
coming out in clumps. Still, the overall total of people
affected with this symptom is small compared to the number of
people who take these medications.
One should always read prescription medication warnings to
determine if hair loss is a side effect. Then, the pros and
cons of taking the medication can be discussed with your
doctor. Switching to a different medication or stopping the
medication can prevent further hair loss.
Hair loss prevention can even occur to a certain extent for
those who are experiencing genetic hair loss. This does not
mean that losing one’s hair is not inevitable, unlike with the
external factors. It means that there are treatment options
available that prevent further hair loss from occurring while
the patient is using the treatment.
There are many differences between the causes of hair loss.
When dealing with external factors, it is always best to
eliminate the cause, or wait out the cause until the
appropriate time. With internal, genetic factors the best one
can do is use available treatments to slow the process of hair
loss. Hair loss prevention is possible with the right tools and
information.
